Metro Shopping Fund was keen to hear the views and opinions on its plans for Clapham Junction from as many local people as possible.

Our four day consultation event at Clapham Junction attracted around a thousand local people, both residents and station users.

Feedback from the local community was very positive with strong support for the proposed station improvements, new public realm and proposed new shopping street. While over 72% of respondents rated the proposed residential buildings as satisfactory or better.

CLAPHAM JUNCTION CONSULTATION FEEDBACK

Metro Shopping Fund recognises that its proposal for the redevelopment of Clapham Junction would have a significant impact on the surrounding area and on the experiences of local stakeholders who live or work in the area and these who use the station. To understand the views and to gain input to the project Metro conducted a comprehensive stakeholder engagement programme. The programme consisted of:

Meetings and presentations to local interest groups, councillors and other parties

A stakeholder workshop to look at the issues and challenges that existed at Clapham Junction

10,000 newsletters mailed to local residents

A four day public exhibition supported by a newsletter and website (www.theheartofbattersea.co.uk)

A consultation questionnaire - mailed to 10,000 homes and available online.

Public exhibition
The public exhibition took place in a bespoke exhibition suite located in the Clapham Junction station car park. The exhibition ran for four days from 23 to 26 January 2008. It was staffed by members of the project team and included display boards, models, an explanatory film and a CGI fly through of the proposal.

The exhibition was publicised via:
The consultation newsletter

Adverts in the local press (Wandsworth Borough News & Wandsworth Guardian)

Posters in the Shopstop Shopping Centre

The distribution of flyers at Clapham Junction station during the morning rush hour

The project website.

The exhibition was attended by approximately 1,000 people over the four days that it was open.
Local stakeholders had the opportunity to submit their views via a consultation questionnaire. The questionnaire was distributed with the consultation newsletter to 10,000 local homes. It was also available via the project website, www.theheartofbattersea.co.uk; and available at the public exhibition.
